Another question I get asked quite often is how I deal with certain types of attacks. Many schools and in many demonstrations all you see is a large lunging punch.
The person comes in with this big huge punch from – from across town. What about a jab. So the person has the jab hand up. The idea behind the jab she’s checking the distance so she’s gonna throw this jab to gauge her distance and as she does that she hits me and she’s gonna follow it across. She want’s to make sure I’m close enough to her. So she lights me up here and then she follows it across boom! I won’t let that happen. So when the jab – punch comes in, remember that it always retracts. In the movies they leave their hand out there- boom! Like this and you can do your dance of death. But in reality a good jabber, a good puncher will take that hand back faster than it goes out. So what I’m, gonna do is deflect that punch here, like this, you come right across the body. That’s where you are making good use of sayunagi.
