Okay so we did one step sparring –Ippon Kumite, we did 3 step sparring – Sanbon Kumite. Now we’re gonna JiYu Kumite or free sparring. Kumite just basically means crossing hands or meeting hands in - it’s what the Japanese call sparring. Free sparring is where there is no prearranged targets it’s basically it’s like you know putting on the gloves and going at it.
The only thing is of course is rules you’re not trying to knock your opponent out you’re really working on your distancing, your Ma Ai, your working on your Tai Sabaki your body movement, your working on being able to block counter, your working on timing. More important than anything is timing. The one thing that beginners have trouble with is they have a lot of trouble with timing but as you progress as you just keep doing it, repetition, you get a feel for it. It’s one of those subconscious things that you’ll just learn.
So basically you stand, you bow, you assume your Kamae Te your fighting posture- now Shaun is just gonna throw hands, I’m gonna be able to do anything. We’re just gonna work nice and slow, just we can demonstrate what - what he is doing.
