So I’m -now what I’m doing is I’m watching him right here. I’m watching the top of his chest; I’m not really looking in his eyes. Because often times they can fake you out and try to look like they’re going to hit you somewhere and they might psyche you out too. He’s a big guy.
I don’t want to get psyched out so I’m gonna look here. Because from here I can see whenever he is moving his hands, I can see when he’s moving his hands or even if he decided he was gonna kick, I could see him kick because I can look right there. I see him – I see him shift his hip. Plus if you’re focusing there they can’t tell where you’re looking. So if I’m here like this – boom! he didn’t see that kick. Because I keep the – maintain the same level (boom. You also want to work on your distancing too.
You want to be able to hit from a different angle. You don’t always want to go in straight, back and forth, back and forth. Somebody’s got a superior reach, he throws a punch, eventually he’s gonna catch you. If you stay there and try to block – boom, boom – see there you go comes right -right back. But if you’re using – if you’re using Tai Sabaki your body movement, you’ve got your hands up when he’s throwing these punches – you really know – boom you’ve got him on distance.
Also if you’re in this close, something that they might do in –uh- regular more practical sparring, they may let you use elbows, control them – you don’t really want to hit. Elbows to the head, you can knee, you can take out low.
There are so many different ways you can do it.
In case you didn’t see the video in part 1 of this series… here it is again.
