Hi! I am Joe Palanzo, President of the World Wide Kenpo Karate Association and with Expert Village; I want to welcome you today.

This self-defense technique that I just demonstrated is called delayed sword. It has three major elements and I am going to explain it slowly as to what you just saw. Uh… as the opponent punches me, the first thing I want to do is remove my face from the target from the space by retreating into what we call a neutral stance. And this space that’s created, gives me space now to injure him, perhaps injure the weapon, which is being thrown at me by block. If it does not injure, at least it is in the way, okay. So the first move I drop back, the other hand, which is hanging down here is brought up in a position of a guard. Uh… if I miss this block for some reason or other, this still has an option of blocking or it is also a position to use as another offensive weapon if I desire.

So the first movement I retreat, I blocked on the arm, hitting one of the nerves and put my hand under appropriate guard.

In case you didn’t see the video in part 1 of this series… here it is again

This is part of a series of posts, you can read the rest of it by clicking on the links for the Table of Contents at the top of this post.
